Want to do something this holiday season that will make an huge and local impact? This Giving Season, we are asking you to reach out to support making important mentorship matches right here in the Ottawa community.
“I want a Big Brother to play sports, video games and have lightsaber battles with.” – Bodhi, age 9
Bodhi crucially needs a male role model in his life – someone to ask questions to and who can help guide him through childhood, adolescence and early adulthood. Waiting is hard for a nine year old.
We have sixty young people facing adversity waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Sister. It costs $1500 to create and support each match we make for one full year. This cost involves intentionally recruiting and training volunteer mentors based on the needs of Ottawa’s young people. Each young person is carefully matched with a mentor who shares mutual interests and lives or works in close proximity. The mentor, mentee and family each receive training and are monitored and supported by a professional caseworker.
If we can raise $90,000 in the next eight weeks, with your support, sixty young people in Ottawa will receive the life-changing holiday gift of mentorship.
Matching a child in a BBBSO program ignites the mentoring effect. Youth who participate in BBBSO mentoring programs have improved academic achievement, avoid risky behaviours and lead healthier, happier lives. In fact, of Littles who have completed a Big Brother Big Sister program, 63% complete post-secondary education, 80% pursue healthy lifestyles and 87% have strong social networks.
You can provide these outcomes to a child by giving them the valuable gift of mentorship.
Please make a gift today and help grant a child their wish.
