Big Possibilities Mentoring Program

“Unlocking a child’s true potential creates a future where anything is possible”

WHAT IS BIG POSSIBILITIES?

Big Possibilities is a youth employment readiness mentoring program that collaborates with young people aged 15-24 years old.

Social and conversational skills are critical for success, helping young people see their pathway to post-secondary education and employment with clarity.

FLASH MENTORING EMPLOYMENT READINESS WORKSHOPS

Every six weeks, BBBSO engages career professionals (from various sectors) and curious youth, giving space for a group of participants to be inquisitive and explorative about life post secondary school and adulthood. These sessions are grounded in youth voices to ensure programming meets expectations and needs.

  • Resume and cover letters;
  • Interview preparation;
  • Post-secondary school applications;
  • Financial literacy;
  • Budgeting;
  • Building credit;
  • Employment and Disabilities;
  • Job Search 101;
  • Rock your Profile; and,
  • Being ‘Future Ready’.

THRIVE SELECT THRIFT VOLUNTEER AND PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Thrive Select Thrift is the social enterprise of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa. 100% of the proceeds from sales go to mentoring programs. There is an opportunity for interested youth to work in a business setting directed by BBBSO staff. Once a placement or volunteer time is complete, you will be provided with a reference letter based on performance for future opportunities.

What you can learn:

  • Sales;
  • Inventory;
  • Merchandising;
  • Operations;
  • Events; and,
  • Marketing.

To be considered for this, youth can request to work with Thrive through their secondary school co-op teacher or through emailing the Business Development Manager, Hope Wood, at [email protected]
