In Ottawa, David’s upbringing was marked by financial strain and the absence of a father figure, leaving him to navigate life’s challenges with only his single mother’s support. Despite facing daunting odds, he managed to persevere through his formative years, eventually securing a stable job as an adult. However, despite outward success, he felt a lingering sense of emptiness—a yearning to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others.

This longing led him to discover Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa (BBBSO), where he couldn’t help but reflect on how different his own journey might have been had he had access to such a support system during his youth. Although he was beyond the age to be a mentee, he was deeply impressed by BBBSO’s commitment to nurturing and guiding at-risk youth in the community.

Driven by a desire to ensure that others didn’t miss out on the opportunities he lacked, David decided to become a monthly supporter of BBBSO’s Monthly Match Maker program. He recognized that even his modest contributions could make a significant difference in the lives of young people who were facing similar challenges to those he had overcome.
